Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do

Description:
Gwangmyeong Cave is the largest themed cave park with varied cultural and artistic things, created in a gold mine where gold, silver, and bronze were mined.
The Mecca of Creation, Gwangmyeong Cave

Gwangmyeong Cave was developed in 1912 by the Japanese Empire for the purpose of exploitation resources. It is an industrial Heritage of place of Japanese occupation and exploitation and signs of modernization and industrialization of the Korean.
After being abandoned in 1972, the Gwangmyeong Cave had been used as a shrimp storage facility for more than 40 years. But Gwangmyeong City bought this place in 2011 and transformed into a historical, cultural and tourist attraction.
Gwangmyeong Cave is considered to be the best cave theme park in Korea, combining its value as an industrial heritage with its cultural value.
It achieved a miracle of dead mine by visiting more than a million tourists a year.

The World’s Focus on Culture Creation Space

The spatial differentiation and rarity of cave is combined with cultural and artistic content to create a new creative culture.
Starting with the Cave Arts Center, you can see works of art through collaboration with numerous artists. Light and new media set in the dark are more than you can imagine.
In addition, the mine, which used to be considered an industrial site, has been transformed into a wine cave and used as a place for communication, presenting a new culture life style.
By recreating the abandoned mine as a complex cultural and artistic space, it is drawing attention as a cultural creative space that the world is paying attention to beyond Korea.

The land of gold

There is still a large amount of gold left in the cave, so some people dream of Eldorado.
You can now experience a variety of authentic gold trees in Gwangmyeong Cave, which is a symbol of wealth and honor and has a lasting value over the years.
