Jeongbang Falls: a cool sea and magnificent waterfalls

The Jeongbang Falls is called Jeju Island's three major waterfalls, along with Cheonjeyeon Falls and Cheonjiyeon Falls.

The Jeongbang Falls is called Jeju Island’s three major waterfalls, along with Cheonjeyeon Falls and Cheonjiyeon Falls. 

It is 23 meters high, 8 meters wide and 5 meters deep, and is the only waterfall in Korea that falls directly into the sea from land. 

It’s a 15-minute way from downtown Seogwipo city.

Buy tickets at the ticket office at the entrance and come down the stairs with pine trees for about five minutes to see the Jeongbang Falls, which is transformed into a color of the Milky Way due to the sunlight.

You can hear a sounds cool waterfalls from afar, and vertical rock walls with well-developed columnar joints can be seen on either side of the waterfall.

The sight of the Jeongbang Falls, which comes down from Mt. Halla and runs through downtown Seogwipo and shakes white in front of the sea, is not as grand as the Great Falls of the West.

The harmony of nature and neatly falling down makes you feel like enjoying Korean traditional ink paintings.

On top of the Waterfall there is Exhibition Hall, where visitors can find the origin of the Jeongbang falls, and if you walk about 200 meters from the ticket office, you can enjoy the Sojeongbang(small Falls) .

It was designated as Jeju Monument No.44 in 1995 and was promoted to National Historic Site No.43 in 2008.

Seobul, a Buddhist monk who took 500 pairs of people to visit Jeju Island to find the elixir plant, erected a Maaebul below a cliff in love with the beauty of Jeongbang Falls, although he could’t find the elixir plant.

Unlike other waterfalls that are only seen from a distance, you can get close to the here in the cool water. 

At the beginning of the summer, people who get the blue energy of the Jeongbang Falls are said to be able to keep out the heat and keep the year healthy.
