Mangwon Market in a unique traditional market where you can feel the Youth of Korea. It was a just normal traditional market by local residents, but lots of young generations moved around here and added vitality to this traditional market.
Beacuse there are a lot of young people here, most stores in this market accept credit cards. Located near Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong, it has great accessibility.
Hotteok is a rice cake where flour or glutinous rice flour is kneaded, then baked in a wide circle, adding sugar, and is one of Korea’s most representative street food.
Hotteok originated in Central Asia and the Arab, and in Korea, it is said to have been started by merchants from the Qing Dynasty who came to Korea during the Im-O Military Revolt in the 1880s.
It is in the Mangwon Traditional Market the name of ‘teumsae hotteok’. It means ‘Between Hotteok’. I think it is because of its location.
Make a dough which is made of flour and some seasonings, a size of two finger amount.
After prepare the dough, it is time of fill it up with brown sugar and other different stuff.
There are many different ways to make hotteok. Some do grill on a oil-flooded fan like half fried, some do use special equipment to make hotteok without oil. This shop choose the second one.
After few minutes later, the gate is open and see the beautiful color hotteok coming out. Smell sweet and look crispy! and it is! it is crispy and sweet!
