Museum SAN (Space Art Nature) began construction by ‘Ando Tadao’, the master of exposed concrete’s minimalist architecture, and finally opened the work of ‘James Turrell’, an artist of light and space, in May 2013.
The museum leads to the Welcome Center, the Grass Park, and then to the Flower Garden, Water Garden, Main Hall, the Meditation Hall, Stone Garden, and the Jamestrel Hall.
The main building contains the architect’s philosophy of connecting the earth and the sky with four winged structures connected into squares, triangles, and circular spaces.
As a cultural space where architecture and art form harmony in the changing arms of nature throughout the four seasons, Museum SAN aims to present the relaxation of life that has been forgotten through paper and analog under the slogan, “Disconnect to connect” as well as rest in nature and art.
A fragrant Flower Garden with 800,000 red-pinks and about 180 white birch tree paths with flower words of pure love.
The combination of nature and art pieces will allow us to communicate with beautiful nature in a wide space.
Water Garden is a quiet and dazzling garden of water that feels like the main museum is floating on water.
Archway and Haemi Stone in the water of main building welcomes visitors creating a more distinctive atmosphere for Water Garden.
The main building of the museum, surrounded by ‘Paju Stone’, has a paper gallery where one can discover the preciousness of paper that has served as the creator and messenger of culture and civilization.
There are two exhibitions and a permanent gallery each year and the four-season beauty curated by nature is dramatically displayed in the hallways that connect each gallery.
Ando Tadao, the architect of light, completed the meditation hall to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Museum SAN.
The dome-shaped space is designed to blend in with the adjacent stone guardians.
Meditation Hall will provide a rich emotional and deep relaxation experience with programs designed to inspire the space, art and nature of the museum.
The Stone Garden, inspired by the Silla Dynasty, consists of nine soft curved stone mound.
You can enjoy the quietness of the earth, stone, wind, and sun, while enjoying sculptures by foreign artists along the Stonemount trail leading up to the curve.
This is a special exhibition hall where you can see the five representative works of James Turrell (Sky Space, Dvision, Horizons Room, Gantzfeld, Wedgewalk).
He creates the beauty of light that we didn’t even recognize, the space beyond imagination, giving viewers an infinite sense of space and meditation to look back on themselves.
