Baekhab: A high-end shellfish comparable to abalone, used for court banquets, and shells were used as medicine containers or as white stones for baduk(go).

Unlike other shellfish, it was likened to chastity by not opening the mouth except when necessary. The beautiful shape and shell are tightly coupled, symbolizing the ‘harmony of husband and wife’ and must be included in the wedding meal in Japan.

The history of Baekhab cooking in his house boasts 30 years of history and tradition. The former was the famous Baekhab house in front of Dongho-ri Beach before moving to Gochang Well-park City Complex.

The son, who worked in Seoul entered the restaurant business 11 years ago to succeed in the family business, is working to popularize the baekhab dish of Gochang following his parents’ generations. It is said that he met his wife as a guest at the lake garden as soon as he came down to his hometown, and got married as if they had been destined.

“My father is an engineer, and he has a unique business sense. It was my father who first started cooking using baekhab in Gochang. Instead of serving a variety of side dishes, he tried to serve three or four key side dishes. My mother was so good at cooking that people around her encouraged her to do restaurants. She’s still in charge of the kitchen.”
