Unique coastal landscape

Seopjikoji, which is bulging out of Jeju’s eastern coast, has a unique coastal landscape with a background of Seongsan Ilchulbong.
Sinyang white sand beach on the head of the field, rape fields on the top of the hill, Jeju ponies that graze freely.
Surrounded by rocks, coastal cliffs and legendary young towering Seonbawi Rock are the typical Jeju’s beauty.

Especially, unlike other beaches in Jeju, here is made of red volcanic ash.
The rocks, submerged in the water and rising in accordance with the tide, produce a major exhibition of nature that is nowhere to be seen.
The meaning of Seopjikoji

In Jeju dialect, “seopji” meaning “narrow land” and “Koji” meaning “promontory” were combined to make the name “seopjikoji”
If you look at the background of history or science, you can look at the seopjikoji more abundantly.
First, near the lighthouse of the volcanic pine tree hill, you can see the beacon that heralded the invasion of the Japanese during the Joseon Dynasty.
The four-meter-tall, nine-meter-long beacon is preserved close to its origin shape.
From a scientific point of view, it is also a great place for natural learning to observe the center of the crater where magma was ejected during a volcanic eruption.
You can indirectly imagine the formation of land in the event of a volcanic eruption by observing scoria and volcanic neck.
Sad legend of sundol rock

There is also a sad legend about the sundol rock.
East Sea god’s youngest son crushed on an angel from heaven, but didn’t make a match with an angel with a lack of 100days effort.
In sorrow, he waits for the fairy to come down from heaven for long, then became a stoned while he standing.
Because of the fondness of Yongwang’s(god) son who failed to achieve love, there is a legend that if you swear love and marry in front of thin rock, you will get a great child.
